Our History
In the early 1940's, while working for the Philco Corporation, Charles Gerhard developed and patented the ice cube tray. His passion for appliances grew, and in July of 1945, he started his own company in Glenside, PA, now known as Gerhard's Appliances. What started as one man’s vision has grown into one of the most trusted appliance stores Philadelphia has. Our Journey
Time progressed, traditions were passed down, and the second generation felt the need to expand to a new location known today as Gerhard's Appliances of Doylestown . By then, the third generation of the Gerhards family was running deliveries, servicing appliances on the road, and working the sales floor. When it was time for them to lead, they faced a major decision: continue with the status quo or rise to meet the challenge of big box competition and changing economic times. To stay true to the company's mission and best serve the customer's appliance needs, the decision to open two additional locations, Gerhard’s Ardmore and Gerhard’s Malvern, were made. These new stores strengthened our presence among appliance stores near Philadelphia and cemented our reputation as a trusted name in the Tri-State Area. From our roots at Gerhard's Appliances Glenside, PA to our continued success as an appliance store Philadelphia families rely on, we’ve remained committed to personalized service throughout every generation.
Our Growth
In 2009, we expanded by opening our Northeast Philadelphia location, which serves as both an outlet center for open-box appliances and the hub of our e-commerce department, allowing us to ship appliances nationwide. As demand continued to grow, we needed more space to support our inventory and customers. In 2021, we added a dedicated warehouse in Ambler and opened our Spring House showroom. Most recently, Gerhard’s Appliances took over the former Queen Appliance KOP and Phoenixville, PA stores, further expanding our presence in the region. From our original Gerhard’s Appliances Glenside, PA location to our growing network of stores, we continue to provide the best service and appliances near Philadelphia, PA.

What happened to Queen Appliance?
Gerhard’s Appliances worked closely with Queen Appliance to take over its former King of Prussia and Phoenixville locations so local shoppers could continue receiving appliance sales and service. Gerhard’s did not take over the Queen Appliance business, but respecting the company’s legacy we now operate the two locations under the Gerhard’s name.
