"There is no greater joy than being able to do what you love with the people you love, and to see that passion radiate beyond your family—inspiring co-workers, customers and the local community."
In the early 1940's, while working for the Philco Corporation, Charles Gerhard developed and patented the ice cube tray. His passion for appliances grew, and in July of 1945, he started his own company in Glenside, Pa, now known as Gerhard's Appliance.
Time progressed, traditions were passed down and the second generation felt the need to expand to a new location known today as Gerhard's Appliance of Doylestown. By then, the third generation was running deliveries, servicing appliances on the road and working the sales floor. It was when the third generation took over that a pivotal decision needed to be made: either risk staying with the status quo, or expand in order to compete with box-stores and withstand the economic pressures of the time. In order to stay true to the company's mission and best serve the customer appliance needs, the decision to open two additional locations in Ardmore and Malvern was made. It was at this point that the business began to truly thrive, leading to the fourth-generation family members to join the ever-evolving small business. In 2009, they opened their Northeast Philadelphia location and e-commerce department with the ability to ship appliances nationwide.
Currently, Gerhard's Appliances has with five state-of-the-art showrooms featuring wificonnected kitchen suites; live appliances to test before purchasing; and an extremely knowledgeable sales-team equipped to help design the kitchen of your dreams on any budget. Gerhard's is the largest family-owned and operated independent appliance dealer in the Tri-State Area with over 80 brands that are competitively priced to ensure best value. The company continues to service the appliances that they sell as a part of their commitment to the customer. This, combined with financial contributions and volunteer services that the family gives back into the community through local volunteer fire companies, charities and athletic leagues, are large factors that drive their success.
As Gerhard's graciously moves into their 75th year of business, they continue to have eyes on the future and hearts firmly rooted in the core values of the previous generations. Locations in Glenside, Doylestown, Malvern, Ardmore and Northeast Philadelphia
